Morning started off rough. Forgot the kayak paddle, 40 minutes home and back to get the paddle. Paddle out in the icy dark, into the wind. Met up with a buddy that I have never hunted with before at the spot 15 minutes before light. He was set for the forecasted south wind. Last minute decision to change the spread for the east wind we had and if it swung, we would adjust then. 15 minutes after light decoys are set again and gun are out. We made some great shots that surprised us and whiffed on some that should be easy. It was a great day.

Lots of ducks out there, but most were way off shore

We ended up with a couple mallards, and had a few passing shots at some divers, including one hen goldie that dropped perfectly from the heavens into the spread, we just couldn’t seal the deal on that one....

I love the way them goldeneye decoy, by far, my favorite duck to hunt

Funny where we hunted mallards were offshore and divers running shorelines.
Interesting how things can change daily
