I was thinking the same thing this morning. It's hard to live intravenously through reports /stories this way.

Hunting Newberry unit. Big goose egg last night. Bait was hammered again when I got out at 2:00 this afternoon. Cameras prior to opener had bears coming in starting around 4 so we shall see.

My cousin and his 2 friends were all successful in Newberry. Looks like very high success for the whole camp. All good average bears.

I'm getting a little bored here. Was hoping to hear some stories and see some photos by now. Must be due to no cell service back in the bush!

I'm starting to judge people unfairly for the level of suck with this thread. Kidding of course. Kinda. Ha

Shot my first bear on Monday evening - my first day hunting. In Houghton county. It's an average size bear for the area according to the DNR check station. 140# dressed sow. I shot her between the shoulders at the base of the neck - she dropped instantly. She was facing me with her head down. She had an old would in her front leg - looks like a pistol shot through and through the leg. I passed on her when she came in at 2:30 pm. Then a smaller one came in and then she came back at 7:30 pm. She ran that bear off the bait. She was noticeably larger than the other bear so I decided that was my shot. Found the bully under the skin at the belly. Weight the bullet - still 180 grains. Barnes TTSX 30-06. my brother just got word a definite shooter visited his bait. His hunt starts 18th. He's got one nearly as tall as the barrel showing up in daylight regularly but the biggest one is a new arrival. He may have a tough decision to make!

I don't want to steal pics so I will just say the bears that my cousin and his friends shot are on yooper outdoors #906 Facebook page. Lots of successful hunters!
