Hey everyone, I am going to start duck hunting next year with a couple of buddies of mine, I would like to get a call or two and practice with them over this coming year, what calls would you recommend? I do have an older call that I mess around with once and awhile and get some decent sounds so it's not like I'm totally a beginner, just looking for your opinions on a good call, nothing to fancy probably like to keep it under like 75 bucks, just something that I can call some ducks in with, thanks

    Echo timber polywood.

Double reed. Sounds real nasty. Easy to learn. Think it's $45. Good mid to close range.

If you can take some time a go visit the people at GK calls, they can put on the right track.

Old school and sounds great. Easy to blow and very nice looking. My dad has the same one from the 70s still uses it.

The large one is loud and the small one is "close range" doesn't take much 'umph' to get it going softly to finish some birds.

    Mallard tone.

I have 2 lanyards that I use. One has a Buck Gardner and a Southern game calls with a BG Canada Hammer for geese and always a whistle for pintails and woodies. Nothing expensive and they sound OK. The other are custom calls by Dave Lewis who doesn't make calls anymore. It has an Open water and a Timber wooden duck calls as well as a acrylic goose call. These sound better but I only use them when the others get wet and need to dry out. If I was to get any new ones I would look at the RNT wooden ones for about $50 each. Steve

If you mess with that Canada hammer it really doesn't sound that bad. It doesn't have much range but it's realistic.

Anything from the C&S stealth series line of calls sounds downright awesome. Easy to blow and are pure duck. The Archangel is great!

I like GK and C&S that's what I run. Hobo calls are great to GKs shop is about a hour from my place so that's a added bonus.

In partial to my RNT’s. I always venture away from them but always go back to them. Especially my mondo and Timbre. I picked up a C&S archangel but I don’t really care for it. I’m gonna change the reed in it to see if that helps.
