Earlier this week while chasing Woodcock with the dog, he brought me to an appealing spot I had overlooked on some public. It's a good day to move any stands with the wind blowing today and rain coming in tonight and tomorrow.

I've had most of mine up for a while as well, but just couldn't help digging out the "public land stand" and setting it in this nice Birch. Usually do my public hunting from the ground to stay mobile, but this place was telling me it was worth the bites from Multi-floral Rose to set a tree stand.

Seemed like every other small tree was lightly rubbed like this one, not many trees really tore up though but the top of the rubs were about 4' high. A good sign along with finding scat like this.

I cannot wait to see what happens here. Hopefully the dog brought me to the promised land. Think I'll grill him up something nice tonight.

Did your dog find you any woodcock??

I can’t wait to get my pup back in the woods next weekend!

Nope. It was kinda more of an exploratory mission, didn't have high hopes for birds but half the fun is finding them in unexpected places.

Plus, the dog doesn't mind. We just like taking the gun for a walk lol.

Good luck when you get back out!

Bummer! I’ll hit a couple known thickets this weekend between deer hunts. There were a few birds in there last weekend that I missed so we should see some action at least!

Go get 'em! Best time of the year in my opinion. Sit for deer in the morning, chase birds or fish at lunch, if you're having luck then why stop? If not, back to a deer stand, LOVE IT!!
