I heard this fawn crying throughout the night. Thought mom would come. Sadly she didn'.
Found it dead this morning, size of a cat.

Maybe, we live mile off main road.
I know there are a ton of deer, just stinks cause I kept hearing it throughout the night. Should have gotten up and got it out of the rain.

    Too bad, for sure.

My profile picture was taken on Old US23.

It appears as though the doe was hit by a car, and the fawn came and laid up under her. I jogged by and, and almost did not see the fawn. I went back, and sure enough, both were dead.

No doubt, nature can be cruel....

Could be. It also can be a young doe, and her first fawn. Higher mortality rates with fawns from young does.

I believe there was a place near fowlerville that took in injured wild animals, once healed are released back into the wild. Only deer/fawns become a pet from bottle feeding usually fawns end up in petting zoo's, because not able to release back into the wild. May not hurt to call a few veterinarians in the area to see if the place still exists, by tonight, may not be able to contact anyone. Also check with DNR unless they give a go ahead, you can not legally do anything.

If I heard correctly, you can contact the facility, if they are still working. They handle everything with the DNR but rarely take fawns because mother usually leaves fawns then returns later. I do know they have taken fawns in when they knew doe was killed, car, dogs, etc..

My wife making the calls, Howell Nature Center maybe option if orphaned. Will wait until dark. I can't go through another nite of a bawling fawn.

DNR probably will tell you to just leave it alone.
