Just wondering if fishing for lake trout and steelhead picks up in the fall? Usually deer hunting this time of year but want to do some trolling through the fall wondering if the bite gets good again or if the best days are behind us? Thanks

Come late October November lake trout can be in shallow. Caught one yesterday off the beach on west side steelhead fishing. First for me.

Yes, lake trout will definitely be around in very tight to shore.

Caseville has really gone down over the last few years. I would really like to know why. It used to be a hot spot that time of year. Hopefully it's better this year.

It used to be so much better. I used to get them starting the beginning of November and they would be there til spring. The numbers aren't there like they used to be.

I know they still get them I fish there every year. The fishing used to be A LOT better there. Trust me I've been fishing there every spring and fall for over 25 years.

You are spot on my man. The lake trout aren’t even close to the early 2000’s. People think a limit is good; a limit could be 3 casts back then.

Last year a charter captain took out some DNR biologists on a trip to show them how the lake trout fishing has declined. He was surprised to see that they weren't catching multiple year classes if fish. He said it showed him that there is concern that there are year classes that aren't surviving. I have been fishing lake Huron off the thumb for a long time. It was nothing to get a limit of different sizes and year classes. Nowadays you hear more about the walleye fishing and less about lake trout. Charters go after walleye and lake trout are becoming more of a by catch.

I didn't keep them when the seasons were different. But it was fun fishing for them!
