No sense chewing your nails over something you can't control.

If we killed off most the deer because of the forecast , you know E.H.D. would not hit after , just because we tried to salvage deer in advance ;right?

If you need rain ,wash your car.
Or better yet ,paint something outside.;)

Just a little S.W. of Grand Rapids I visited a sportsmans club for a deer check years ago.?
Talked with some guys years back that were almost reeling from the effect...
Having had plenty of deer and then having trouble finding a track.
It's a shocker the first time.

A friends place got hit hard too.
It was a couple years to see enough deer to get interesting again ,and a few to see older bucks again with any regularity.
It's harsh. I left the friends site alone for quite a while. Hunted it a little ,knowing if I made a kill it would affect his family's hunting...

Another friend had to leave his close to home river bottom hunting too for a while. Hundreds and hundreds of dead deer along it.

    But nature bounces back.
Less deer get better browse ,usually.

A nomadic alternative plan is about the best option for now for sites that get hit.
Neither of the two sites that were decimated had a repeat like the first (well, recent history's first) outbreak.

I wonder about the great wet area I'm in too when it starts to dry. A little till it rains hard again.
But , no problem of late.

Yeah if you've been hit hard by EHD the last thing you want to do is kill a doe!

What happens if it hits in a CWD core area? Deer go to water and die, and contaminate the entire downstream watershed if CWD positive.
However, EHD has killed thousands more deer in Michigan than CWD ever will

Lol...I find it hilarious that someone is worried about a forecast thats months into our future here especially in MI..Their wrong half the time in a 5 day forecast..They were totally wrong predicting southern MI this year as it was some of the wackiest weather I ever recall for my area in Hillsdale..
Let's not pop a vessel quite yet Drake.

My property is 2 counties north of Barry, but our woodlots have standing water in every low area. My memory gets fuzzy after 40 years, but I think it's the worst since the ditch was put in in '57. It was just cleaned out in 2017 so a plugged ditch isn't the problem.

I have heard if you have had EHD in your area the odds are good that a lot of your deer will have an immunity to it due to the deer that got the disease during the outbreak but survived.

I wish the people in my area were smart enough to not shoot the does after the outbreak. I know of at least 53 dead deer within one mile of our property; and a lot of it is thick swamp no one goes in so I am sure there were many more. The owner of an adjoining property, told me during muzzy season that all he had seen was one doe with 2 little ones and if he saw her again he was going to shoot her. Unfortunately, later that night I heard a shot off his property and could only assume the worst.
