That is an excellent point. You are spot on. It is the biggest gripe about hunters in states that have mandatory check in.

Interesting numbers. The only saving grace here is we know that the sharpshooters are only in the hotzones. So those specific areas are probably being reduced by 50%. What we don't know is what the reduction outside of those small areas is. My guess is it is probably much better reduction than it used to be before cwd. When you give away free tags there has to be more used than there was before cwd. If it is enough who knows. There has to be alot of non complience going on.

At least 400 deer have been tested in the UP, most of them were from the WUP.

Far East Sportsman's Coalition 1/24/17 meeting. Attended by Ashley Autenrieth and Chaired by Dave Jentoft. Just dug out my notes, it was 600 deer tested, sorry for the confusion.

Does anyone know what the DNR/USDA is paying for sharpshooting deer? I imagine its a contractual per deer rate but don't know.

And for every 2.2 deer that hunters take in the core zone, soccer moms harvest one with their minivans! Hard to believe anyone is serious about herd reduction. ( I realize the road kill includes found deer).

It sounds to me like people just aren't taking their deer in to get checked.

Did you notice the notes at the bottom? It was there two weeks ago too, the 2 Mecosta county deer were from the cervid farm.

I did see that statement at the bottom. I'm taking that to mean that the numbers do not include the 2 positives turned in by the Mecosta deer farm...PERIOD...nothing else. I do not think that the DNR is saying that the 2 positives are definitely from inside the fence and not heads from the Amish deer processor.
If you are thinking differently, why ?
