Has anyone been out on the ice there yet?

I heard 4 to 6 inches of ice but I would be careful

Yeaaaaaa. I'm still young but not young enough to have the balls to venture out yet lol. Thinking first or second weekend of January for this cat.

No one was fishing this morning. The far south side of the bay had open water. We walked out a hundred feet or so on 6 or so inches of ice from the launch this morning. A few soft spots are visible through the light snow cover to the south of the launch. A couple of snowmobilers went east from the launch and stayed on the northern half of the bay while we were walking on the ice this morning. Another man was there, walking and testing the ice as well.

With the cold weather this week it should firm up nice for next weekend.

Probably good by this weekend but i would test it yourself... I walked out quite a ways yesterday.. it takes a lot to scare me off the ice and thats just what happened. Way more currents around here than people realize. 6 inches of ice in some spots. 2 at best in others.. open water around

Any updates on ice conditions at musky bay? Is a machine a must in this bay or could I walk from the launch and find fish. Thanks.

I can't speak to the depth of ice currently, but I fish musky bay a fair amount. Unless the ice is thick enough to drive my truck I'm stuck walking. I have found fish fairly close to the launch, but usually it's a 15 to 20 minute walk to where I usually fish. If you're willing to walk a ways there's always a chance of finding fish.
