We’re driving over there tomorrow from Wisconsin. Have heard mixed reviews on the ice conditions....we’re bringing an atv and a 4wheeler, but if the ice is as bad as some say it is we will walk out with our shanty’s.....we were planning on hanging out by the landing and glassing to c what others r doing, or where they’re “driving” safely, and planning for Sunday accordingly.....any advice is appreciated. Really don’t feel like swimming in Lake Erie this time of year!!! Thx for any input

I would call around down there first before making the drive. These sting north winds and the couple days of warm weather have blew out all the ice in Michigan waters. Can't imagine it's holding up to good down there either.

We fished a nearby small lake today and drove by Catawba. The amount of shove ice is incredible. Some piled 20 feet high. Pretty jacked up.

Just checked the satellite images and it doesn't look good for Saturday. Has anyone been down to the state park recently? thanks

There were a handful of guys out there today .
A CG cutter is escorting a Iron Ore Freighter from Cleveland to Toledo as I type this. That and the Strong South winds predicted for the next couple of days could be a recipe for trouble out there.

There’s a clear sat picture up now. If I didn’t know better - you can see the track of the cutter / freighter right into the maumee.

I’m jonesing but it’s just not worth it to me with the weekend wx.

Another real clear sat picture today. Looks like open water out of Huron - unfortunately I bet the river is iced in though... if we could just get a CG cutter to go up and down a couple times - that would be great!!

That white line running east/west has to be an epic sized ice shove.

Screenshot_20180119-192317.png Looks like where the cutter has been breaking up the ice for the ships to run. You can see where it splits to the Detroit River to the North and the South to the Maumee and follow it all the way into Toledo.

Was open then started to freeze with the snow on it .

It really is a scary picture though given the wind... I'm just not quite sure of the island outline... All those cracks - they look tiny from space but could be a mile plus wide - giving the ice plenty of room to move...
