I am very lucky that my nine year old son loves hunting as much as I do. He is with me just about every time I step in the woods. When he was 7 he was able to take his first deer, a nice 8 point and this last season he was able to tag a nice 6 point. Now he is 9 and wanted to try his hand at turkey hunting. I bought him a 20 gauge for Christmas and we got it patterned so he was very confident with it. Fast forward to last weekend. His uncle Dan (CassCityAlum) got rained out for a bit on Saturday morning and had located some birds the night before. So he made the plan for us to meet nice and early and get set up. As soon as we did we had a few gobbling on the roost. My boys eyes lit up when he heard that. After they flew down they went silent. We knew we were in a good spot and it was just a matter of time before they showed up. About an hour passed and the next thing he said was don’t move. The birds has snuck in from behind us and were about 5 yards from the blind. It happened so fast and we did our best to get Carson situated for the shot. Just as the birds split up a bit Carson was able to get on the lead bird. He let him have it at about 15 yards and just like that he had his first bird and is now hooked on turkey hunting.

I owe all this to Dan, Carson’s uncle. He made sure his nephew was successful and that he had a fun time doing it. He was also part of the recovery on Carson’s first deer. Neither Carson or I would have it any other way and he’s very lucky to have such a great uncle. So thanks for everything uncle Dan!!

I’m the luckiest guy alive. I get to spend all this time in the woods with my little buddy and I’m so proud of him. It’s fun to watch how much he’s grown as a hunter in the last few years.

You got that right. Not many are lucky enough that one of their best friends is also their brother in law.

Its awesome to have the experience to watch our children follow in the foot steps and enjoy this sport of hunting as we do. Congrats to Carson on his first Turkey. Keep up the good work Josh and Dan, that's awesome you take the time to help put smiles on a youngsters face, that indeed says a lot about how great of a guy you are.

Rich, no reason to be mean to the kid. He’s only nine . He looks a lot like his daddy too.

Priceless story and pictures and of course memories!

There are things that a lot of Fathers and Sons have in common, different sports, hobies maybe or hot rods.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a closer Bond between a father and son that hunt and fish together out in in Gods creation, away from chaos and distractions!

I'll never forget my son's first Buck or the many memories of fishing & deer camp.

Unfortunately he's not into turkey hunting: (
