Someone with a wood miser could be making some decent money right now, especially with the lack of lumber available in lumber yards. And yes, rough sawn lumber is all the rage down here too, rustic furniture and such is big and so is finishing the interior walls of barns with rough sawn boards and it's beautiful by the way.

Yep! Eye know a guy that just took down a old barn, he made a pretty penny of the antiqued lumber.

Don't look at it that way.
Think of it as a knowledge base that you can use if you want.
Lots of different views available. Widely differing. Strongly held, with adequate experience for the most part on all sides.
You can pick the ones you best identify with. That make sense, work, for you.

Me, I have a lot going on all the time.
I can't enter into arrangements where I am beholding to someone else. It isn't fair. The likelihood I would be available to return a valuable favor is very low.
So, I pay for what I want, and I donate what I want to those that need help, but only when I can.

    like my 42' Geni boom.
It's been "on loan" for over a decade. LOL

That is the trade off on these deals, sometimes. It is almost always when some free time is available. I understand that and wouldn't expect someone to put off making money to help me out. I try to plan these things where I have the time to wait.

There are times when that isn't an option though. I have rented equipment in those cases and get it done when it needed to be done. I actually enjoyed that a lot more than I thought I would. It was a lot of work, but it was actually fun and it was nice to get soooo much done, on my schedule.

    Aw, I'm touched.
And, I appreciate freedom. So, if people want to live in dumps, it's their business.
I doubt people start out wanting to, I think it just ends up that way.

My friend blew out his bicep muscle and had surgery. At the same time,The end wall of his basement collapsed. I took the time off, brought down the equipment, jacked up the house, dug out the basement wall, rounded up a hungry apprentice bricky to lay the block, put in the drains, pea stone, block seal, foundation coat, back filled it, compacted it, graded it back, Because I could.
And because he was injured, with winter coming.
That's about $15,000 donation. Plus my time.

We are friends, I don't expect anything from him.

Pretty good story up until the point you added the dollar amount the donation was worth.
