Anything in the Grand Rapids area would be appreciated as well.

I got out on Cass Lake Oakland County yesterday. The fishing wasn't good at all. We walked on from the boat launch at 7:30AM and saw a few questionable openings near shore. Most of the main lake still had 12-18" of ice. However, when we came back in from fishing around 12:30 the shore ice we walked in on was making some very unsettling cracking noises. Needless to say we elected to find a new spot to come off the lake. If you get out be safe.

Also a "special thanks" to whoever decided not to mark their spearing hole from the previous day - would it kill you to stick a branch in the hole?

pretty good ice left,15 to 18 inches good clear under the top junk, but each lake is diff, springs, current, weedy shallows.checked 1 pond deep in the woods and the shoreline was flooded, access could be a problem on northern exposure, but most ice pack good shape

Ice thickness really doesn't indicate safety this time of year. ice quality is what matters. 4 inches of good clear ice is more predictable than 8 inches of ice made of frozen snow. Here in sw Michigan we get hammered be lake effect snow which makes for thick ice that is poor quality and goes fast. Lakes around here still have ice that is fishable but you had better use caution and bring your spud. It will be over soon.
