I shot one with the bow in the Ottawa marsh that was 46 lbs years ago. Caught many on hook and line that went over 20. Did you ever try a fly rod on them when they are sucking stuff off top of the water

I have surface fished them before but not with a fly reel

I use to fish them where bear creek runs into the Kzoo river by Dunningville. We use to catch a lot of them at times but most were 8 to 10 lbs. I always wanted to try a flyrod on them when they were sucking bugs off the top.

Forced perception makes this fish look weird. His fingers are bigger than his nose. Why hold a fish out at arms length, why?

People are instructed, holding a fish out is the preferred method. I personally refuse to do that. Without your body there is no way to get perspective. What do I know, I also fish out of a solo canoe.
Peace (no I am not an old hippy, but I am getting older)

Great fish and enjoy chasing them from time to time.

Right? Big fish but I doubt 50lbs, or else that dude has the biggest hands ever.

Try Wilderness State Park too. We see a lot of them while we’re smallie fishing during the summer. Perfect targets for the fly rod. Shrubby
