There is a reason lowhead dams are called drowning machines.

I did not witness it. From the video I cannot imagine how frightening that must have been, especially for the guy who was still on it when it flipped over and somehow still managed to stay on it when it got flipped back upright again.. I am very pleased to hear that all 3 guys made it out safe and the boat was recovered. A cautionary tale for all.

I saw the video. How did they end up tight to the dam? Were they upstream and lost power or did they end up there from downstream somehow. I'm unfamiliar with the hydrology....how does that happen?

A big log dragged them back toward the dam hooked to their anchor.

Even without the log, you get too close from below and it will suck you right in, happens fairly often. Them guys are very fortunate that they are not still there being rolled about below the surface at the base of the dam. That current seam flowing TOWARDS the dam can literally hold objects swirling about for weeks and weeks before it finally lets go.

Ive seen a lot of stupid stuff happen at 6th street dam. It sounds like this time though the boaters were in a fairly safe spot until a 30ft log came over the top of the dam landed on the anchor line and rolled up the anchor line as it was pulled back towards the dam pulling the boat with it. The video does not show this first part that is why I was curious if anyone witnessed it and can confirm.

    For what?

    To wear your PFD's?

To have a knife or bolt cutters on board to cut an anchor line?

Maybe a cautionary tale in how close not to park next to something that has a very well deserved reputation for being a killing machine?

Always have a knife on board. Anchored in the river or on the open water you never know what can happen. Glad the guys are safe. Looked like a crazy ride

saw it once, the boat had 2 men, within 20 seconds it seemed the boat came out a mangled piece of trash,1 guy got spit out the other guy kept recirculating up to the dam, finaly he came out and survived.thought he was a goner.like 357 said ,things stay in the boils a long time...but that was one hell of a boat those guys were in today.it was full of water immediately.expected it to shred

Right, definitely way to close for comfort

but had he cut the anchor line it appears he had a big enough motor to get out of it,
    Yes no?

Also didn't notice any PFD's on any of those guys................
