My dad had an old cloth creel with measurements on it. After a day's fishing I started cleaning the trout. Man, those things look short! Come to find out the thing shrunk. Took a tape to it and it was off an inch at 10...LOL

We have caught that many or more but not in Mich. I caught one in a SW mich lake that was 11 inches. Where we use to fish in Canada the 10 inch amounts we quite doable. One lake I fish here I use to get a couple 10 inch fish but it winterkilled and that was the end of that for a while

You guys are killing me with this stuff, I love it. I mean, for a few hours I began to question my abilities as a fisherman and think, "Maybe I have been doing it all wrong". I have fished the very same area for many years?????? Kind of like seeing the word "the" and wondering if I spelled it right? Anyway, I believe I'm not alone anymore.

Most of the “10 inch gills” that I have seen are on like the one on the tape above. The mouth is just barely at 10 and tail is just slightly past the start of the tape.

Never caught one that actually measured out 10 but many 9 1/2 to 7/8s.

You know they are big when you can lip grab them.

Bluegill hard to believe Redear still hard to believe either way unless it's a large lake it won't handle that much pressure.

I think that any of us that posted on this thread would have a pic of 30, 10"ers, and probably in a frame. I'll leave it at that.

HA!...I had a similar creel shrinkage issue back in the late 80's while fishing the Au Sable. There was a slot limit then. I was cleaning some nice brookies one day and discovered it...most of my trout were actually illegal. I bought a new one the next day. I hope there are no CO's reading this.

With my dad's heritage going back to the Copper Country, I bet he boiled that thing to make it shrink..... :shhh:

Not really. The lake that I spoke of gettin some before they winter killed is only about 60 acres. I don't think you could get 30 of them out of there at one time but they were there. One morning in the spring before the die off I had 24 fish in a 5 gal pail and the pail was over 1/2 full. All were over 8 and the biggest was around 9. This lake is only 12 foot deep at the deepest spot and I am sure it is less than that in low water time
