  1. Warm Water Fishing Inland LP Lakes
I don't want to rain on your parade, but with these extended cold weather days I've got my doubts on any bluegills on their beds by then. Looks like tonight will be the 4-5 night in a row with freeze warnings down in the 20's and the highs each day struggle into the 50's. But not all is...
  2. Warm Water Fishing Inland LP Lakes
The few lakes I've looked at in Mecosta County are what I would call at normal levels. This is probably due to the fact that most of them have low head dams controlling the water levels. Lakes that don't have a regulated outlet were abnormally high last spring, but this not this year. I'll...

Do you want me to call Kelly to see what the wind forecast is going to be inside The Party Lounge? :)

Burt, Mullett, and the Black River mostly in late September or early October. Way too many other fish to target there during the other times of the year.
  5. Warm Water Species Fishing
The lake isn't difficult in August, but it is for the fish you want to go after. Had you said you were going a week or two after Labor Day, I'd say you'd be in for a great trip. During the Dog Days of summer, not so much. Your first post stated that you guys were better at targeting green...

Just my opinion, but trying to score big on Mullett Lake smallies in August would be like to saying that you were planning a trip for morel mushrooms in January. If your stuck on one of those two locations, go to LSC. Now if you are open to another suggestion, you may want to consider the area...
  7. Warm Water Species Fishing
I can't remember the year as it was quite a few years ago, but I think the last time that the Michigan BASS Federation held a tournament there, the winners ran all the way to Cheboygan. That fact has always stuck with me, and I limit my fishing efforts towards perch and/or northerns when I fish...

May the breezes be light and the rain be lighter for all.... This old man will be sneaking along the banks of a small creek in search of a brown trout or three.

Pass on my congrats to him along with best of luck wishes on this summer's tournaments. Hopefully he's aiming for a school where he doesn't have to suffer through months of hard water we have up here. As far as battery power goes, there's some pretty good info from @ piketroller and others...

Isn't it your son involved in the high school bass tournament scene? This might be the perfect time to have a teaching moment for the young man to work out the problem. Boat builders have been lagging behind electronic innovations for decades, and if he continues to stay in the cast-for-cash...

Another good choice to look into are Smithwick's Rattling Rogues. The suspending models were go to baits for both largemouth and smallmouth in my tournament days. They also worked for walleyes in some inland lakes, and even better for northern pike on several Canadian fishing trips.
  13. Warm Water Species Fishing
If you're going to be up there for a week, why not try both? It's a little less than an hour drive from the one to the other, so pick a day or two on one, then move over to fish the other. Should give you a good idea of which one to spend the rest of the week on.

Here's a short list of some of the lakes that I've fished over the years, in alphabetical order. Bear Lake (Manistee Co.) Burt/Mullet Lakes Cadillac/Mitchell Duck/Green Lakes Fletcher Pond Hamlin Lake Houghton Lake Lake Missaukee Portage Lake (Onekama) If I had to pick three based on multiple...

It would help if you offered a little more information like what kind of boat you have, what kind of fish you're after, how you like to fish (casting, trolling), etc..

I had to go down to Stanwood this morning, so before the rain hit I stopped at Twin Bridges (DNR Launch) in Rogers Heights and took a couple of quick pictures for those thinking about Hardy Pond for the coming weekend. Ramp is high and dry, but maybe a small boat could be manhandled into the...

I've seen that kind of clean break where the rod (or blank) laid on top of an edge where vibration caused it to weaken.

  19. Warm Water Species Fishing
Having fished in bass tournaments for many years, it has become a habit to hook the kill switch cord to my life jacket as soon as I get in the boat. For the guys that are really worried about it, the regs look to be written to exempt about 99% of boats, so no need to fuss.
