We are going to deal with a warm spell in Missouri next week. This is the week we hunted last deer but it was warm. The cold week was after we left. I have a co-worker south of where we hunt. He has had some real cold temps and said they are chasing.
Big story is wind forecast. 3 out of next 4 days here are supposed to be out of north followed by over a week straight of southerly winds. If a hunter has a preferred north wind stand he better use it soon or else it might be the week before firearm season before there’s another opportunity.
Another out of the ordinary thing with the current long range forecast for our area is that for the next 10 days there's not a single day with a rain probability forecast of above 20%. I recognize that could change but I love the fact that there may not be any washouts during the prime time to come.
Sat yesterday A.M. for turkey to no avail with absolutely no sign of the rut, many families still intact and hangin together,no bands of last springs fawns, nothin chasin anything, save a demolished decoy by a Lab Pup,had seen as early as 2 weeks ago some scrapes getting started, but iam out tonight with the rain and a new crossbow! GL ya All!!!
Ended tonights hunt with a total count of 29,3 fawns 22 doe and 4 bucks,2 young bucks browsed within feet of one another, and a very nice main frame 8 with split brow tines briefly scouted the F plot, upon leaving walked up within 25 yds of a very nice buck drinking water from a pond,he was as suprised as i,did listen to some sparing ,but the Rain,Moon,Temperature Amount of daylight and whatever contributes to the rut hasnt materialized,as the wife said glaringly, only rut here is in the driveway...Yup that was my job... Gonna try again Sat.
