I can sort of see a pink hue on my computer. Has a shape similar to that of a brown but I've never seen a brown with a pink hue so that's why I'm thinking hen steel.
I'd say this one has spots below the lateral line. By no means an automatic ID.
The brown/ Atlantic question comes up a lot but not usually brown/ steelhead. I guess if it had a pink stripe but that doesn't look anything like a steelhead to me
Definitely has the shape of a brown but I noticed a little pink as you mentioned so I had to go with that, haha. I bet it was good. I'd have grilled it or baked it. How'd you prep yours?

If it had any pink on it, then it was a steel. The tail looks more like a steelhead with the pointed tips. Usually browns are more flat....was there eggs in it when you cleaned it?

You’ve got to be kidding me!? It’s a brown trout all the way. Looks nothing like a steelhead or Atlantic salmon. Wow...these threads are getting out of control.
You have to remember one thing. We live in a state where you must keep a foot on small game when you clean it in the field, because the DNR themselves cannot tell the difference between a naked rabbit and a naked squirrel. I agree 120% ..........BROWN Trout
What the heck kind of browns you got over there that look like steelies? Football shape messin you up?
Over wintered in a river by me ,that fish would be at least a third lighter in weight ,and either more pink striped ,or a heck of alot more varied colors than it is anyway near now. Jaw don' t look right either.
I've found eggs in browns in May. Both full sized left over from spawning - in that case about enough for two spawn bags, and messed up skein being reabsorbed from not spawning.
That's 100% a brown. Just the size of the spots leaves no doubt.
I have caught browns completely washed out with hardly any spots though and struggled to tell them from steel.
Someone do a dna test lol. I’d still bet my money on brown. The body shape, jaw, coloring, square tail with no spots, blotches instead of dots. Looks like a normal lake run brown to me. Noting like the steelhead I’m used to catching.
