Wondering if anybody has any reports of the water level or pics of the river below foot Dam looking to make a 3-hour drive this weekend up there and wonder if it's worth hitting the river
Water flow bumped up to a bit over4000 cfs, then dropped a couple thou quickly. The river should be fishable, although high, this weekend. That slug of water should have blown a lot of ice out, and pulled some fish in.

I used to think 1250 was ideal on the Ausable. But now I pretty much think any fishable water is ideal. If the water is high, I prefer falling flows vs rising flows, but that is my personal preference (backed by scientific studies of when Steelhead run rivers in different flow situations). I've caught Steelhead in the A when the flow was 800, and I've caught Steelhead when the flow was 3000. 1100 - 1400 is easiest for me to fish.
When there is a LOT of water coming down, you have to use heavier weights to bottom bounce. And when you use heavy weight, you get snagged a lot more.
