How are the conditions at Shiawassee? Has the ice broke up any with the slightly warmer temps? On vacation as of tomorrow and want to get a couple hunts in.
On a side note, how are the conditions at FP and Nayanquing ?
As of now Harsens is leading the way with Ducks per hunter. I know Shi is doing better than FP in that regard. NQP is doing pretty good with birds per hunter as well.
if i remember right in 2006 or so, harsens killed like 12 or 13k birds...and shiawassee was around 9 or 10k.
a real good season for us will be around 6-8k. last few years have been horrible...but so has all of michigan..not just us. migration was fast and short those years or after season.
All dependent on the ability to have/hold enough water I suppose. I think the total harvest is more impressive considering the area size difference between the areas.
Going to try hunting Shi on my own this weekend. Times I have gone in the past were with individuals that have intimate knowledge of the area. So not expecting a whole lot, other than a much needed learning experience if I am going to try to hunt it more. Got to pay your dues.

Didn’t make it there today, my buddy had a catastrophic failure with his winch mount. Going to try to re-weld it up today and maybe get over there tomorrow.
After a quick trip back to the lot to get my buddy's gun from the truck, we were in business at 1:15. Good thing as a pair just piled right in. Who cares that they were spoonies!
Had a pair of drakes do it right, folded the first and the second went into a hard dive and then pulled up and just cleared the dike. Went to look for him and found acres of cat tails in front of me. Did a couple laps through there but no chance.
when i motored in this morning i cut thru the woods and kicked a big flock of spoonies up...so if anyone likes to shoot spoonies...theres my shiawassee tip of the day. north north woods..up in the deep water.
dunno if you have me on facebook or not but i shared a video yesterday of a common merg downing a what looks like a 14" bass. most impressive feat i've ever seen from a merg. Very common for them to hammer shad on the shiawassee this time of year. Can run them over with a boat all day long on the river...they are too fat and full to actually fly.

that and absolutely nobody ever hunts the north woods in the deepwater...at least not after opening day.
