We both have open face spinning reels, and they were combos (reel and rod bought together).

Mine is the Pflueger, Lady Trion. It's 6'6" long, medium action, 6-12 lb. line. I have 8 lb. mono line on it. 5.2/1 gear ratio. IM8 graphite.

Kevin's is Abu Garcia, Ultra Cast , Graphite IM7, 6' long, Medium action, 4-12 lb. line. I forget, it either has 8 or 10 lb. mono on it. Gear ration 5.2/1.

I am using the basic Uni-Knot and the Clinch knot. They are both out of my: Complete Book of Baits, Rigs, and Tackle.

yea try floating lures by submerged brush or a jig and tube is also a good choice they don't get snagged up very much you will get better at casting and not getting hung up in time but you always will loose some lures if you guys ever want to fish for salmon or steel I can direct you to a good river but it is a drive from were you are and look at garage sales if you don't want to get all new poles what rods do you have now and what knotes you tying?

Fishfighter, sometimes fishing from boat on a lake, and sometimes from a river bank. We only have one pole each right now, that's a great idea to have different poles set up for different things, that must save some time! We are REALLY good at getting snagged up in rocks, logs, and anything else you can get snagged in. So even though I'm always hearing fish by logs and brush, it can be a big hassle getting caught up all the time! Yeah I do have a few pics of a large mouth and the pike my husband got, I'll post them one of these days.

are you fishing out of a boat? also leaches have there place mostly when jigging as you get more rods you can keep one set up for live bait and one for lures try fishing around docks logs in the water and any other structure you can get to

I've really been enjoying this site! It's great that there are good people willing to take the time to help someone out and give there opinion or answer a question! I haven't target one specific type of fish we're looking to catch really. It's fun to get just about anything right now, just starting out like my husband and I are, it doesn't really matter what we're getting. I'm sure there will come a time when we'll have a preference. We went fishing for a few hours last night with a neighbor and discovered how much fish like leeches!! It was unbelievable! Forget those expensive lures we've got, even though I'm sure they have there place, but last night the leech was getting the job done! My husband got a real nice largemouth bass. I got several bluegill and one perch. I'm loving this sport!
