      Hi Steve,
This is Mike. We meet at the Spaniel trial I did the shagging. I am getting a field bred english cocker pup next month. You had told me at the trial some of the training you do with your cockers. I am wondering if you know anyone in the Grand Rapids, MI area that has cockers and trains them. I want to do the training myself just looking for someone with experience to train with. Thanks Mike

Hi Dauber, I have been trying to track down the Grouse Hunting article you posted a few years back. Any chance you could forward me a PDF? It had to be one of the best written and understandable articles I have come across. Thanks Richard Mohr

      Hi Steve,
Thanks again for meeting us. Pretty tough hunt for us. Our honey hole on Hog Island Rd. was pretty weak. One grouse and one woodcock in almost 8/10's of a mile. Went back there in the evening a I killed one young grouse and that was our only flush on that side of the road, other side of the road has some nice woodcock cover and held a few birds. Batty Doe was a little better but very warm and dogs had a tough time. We got lost trying to get up to Dinkey Line and ended up on Sage Truck Trail. Flushed a few grouse but didn't see them. All in all it was too warm to be hunting and too many leaves. We will come later next year. I'm thinking numbers are not great this year unless the dry conditions made the birds hard to find.

      Hi Steve,
What are you seeing or thinking about the prospects for grouse and woodcock this year?
      Thanks, Scott

      Scott,
We go to this vet office... http://thompsonvetclinic.com/ . If you take the south Gould City road down to the Leveille Road which is about 1.5 miles north of Lake Michigan go west and in about 4-5 miles you will be to Batty Doe Lake. Heading out for training. Have a great trip.

      Steve,
Emergency vet in your area? Also, last year I had trouble getting down into the Batty Doe area off of US 2. Can I take Quarry Road down there? Last year I remember seeing private property signs there. Can you help with an easier way?
      We're camping at Garnet Lake.
      Thanks, Scott

      Steve,
Looks like I'll be up you way arriving to hunt on 9/21,22 and 23. North Shore Cabin is booked, any suggestions on where to stay in the Naubinway area for two guys? Hopefully we can hook up to hunt or for a beer. What's your feeling about bird numbers this year?
      Thanks, Scott

Gavan, Both are cockers. One is a El Corazon (Ginn's from Texas) the other is an Oahe x Glenco dog. I love the springers too!

Thanks for the grouse hunting PDF. Are both of your dogs cockers or one springer one cocker? I am a long time springer field trialer and hunter. What breeder did your dogs come from?
