Huron Bay Tavern Buck by Don Pickard

The Huron Bay Tavern in Michigan's Upper Penninsula had been harboring this magnificent whitetail deer mount for more than a half of a century. The deer was shot by the well known Don Pickard in 1952. An out of state visitor purchased it off the wall at the bar "The Finns" in April 2010. Two weeks later the establishment closed it's doors for good. The rack has been since cleaned up and refitted on to a new manikin and cape. The original hide was unsalvagable. The new cape is from a 235# whitetail deer from Aberta, Canada. This Don Pickard whitetail mount has become a local icon. It's been seen, and now it can be remembered by all of the locals to Baraga County in Michigan's Upper Penninsula. 2/13/2011
