Description: This is a 9' 2-piece fishing rod. It's done in attractive burgandy with a cork handle.

There are 2 versions- the one with an east-coast handle and one with a west-coast handle. The difference is that the east-cost handle has the reel seat up near where the rod comes out of the handle. The west-coast handle has the reel seat near the end of the rod.

There is also the plain Guide Series rod - it's different than the Guide Series Advantage.

Pros: Sensativity, strength, durability, looks
Cons: Availability

I can't sing the praises for this rod enough. I purchased one to use for salmon two years ago. That year, I snagged a 26 pound female king in the top of the tail and had to palm the spool on my reel with 12 pound line to prevent her from going into dock posts - the rod never had a problem.

The following spring, I used it for perch fishing. The fish were biting so lightly that I was the only one out of about 2 dozen guys getting any fish. Further, my 5.5' ultralight wasn't sensative enough for me to detect the bites - the tip of this 9' rod would move about an eigth of an inch when one would take the minnow. I ended up fishing with a single pole because the only thing I got with the other rod was lost bait.

This past fall, I hooked an 18 pound silver king who really took off, putting immense strain on the rod - never had a problem. Add to this the fact that it's a whopping $40 and they have them on sale every spring for $30, and it doesn't make sense to spend more unless you want a specialty rod.

The only problem I have with this rod is that it's hard to find with an east-coast handle. The west-coast handle is more common, but I like the east-coast handle for fishing, especially for big fish. I had to special order the second rod like this and it took them 3 tries to get one with the right type of handle.
