This book is absolutly the best book I have ever read about hunting! I would definatly recommend this book to anyone who would like to take a few years off the learning curve on hunting whitetail deer. It is filled with very helpful information and stories about John's past hunts. John has 18 Michigan state record bucks, and he has helped me greatly improve my deer hunting.
------------------------------ Hunting is not a matter of life or death, it is much more important than that.

As many of you know John writes in various capacities throughout the outdoor world. He has impressed me in all of the articles I have read and this book is no different. Most huting publications are written by authors that typically hunt in areas that experience little to no hunting pressure. John focuses on how to score on whitetails in high pressure areas, like those that we experience in the state of Michigan. There are no "secrets" in this book. John tells it like it is. To score on Michigan whitetails it takes, time, energy and a lot of work.

The only negative comment is the duel authorship, which at a couple points in the book was a little confusing.

I read the book a few months and found it quite good. I get tired of reading the same old, done to death, whitetail-hunting reruns in books and magazine articles. Finally, someone with some real deer hunting skill and savvy steps up to the plate with more to offer than the standard fluff. This book is like a manual to taking adult bucks. He shares all his secrets and backs up his advice with recounts of how he has applied the tactics described to take monumental bucks on his own. He does not go on guided hunts or lease land. Rather he does it the hard way by knocking on doors and hunting public land. For a first book, John and his Son Chris did an extraordinary job and their effort has become a best seller on Amazon.com. He is working on his second book and I can't wait until it comes out.
