Description:

These are a good spoon at a great price. Crippled Alewives are the Gander Mountain store brand of trolling spoons. I picked up around a dozen of them last summer when they were on sale for $2/ea. I wasn't disappointed.
The yellow tails and blue dolphins became some of my "go to" spoons last year. They produced just as well as the $4-$5 versions of the same color patterns made by other tackle manufacturers, and actually come with a better hook out of the box. I'm particularly anal about the hooks I use, and I normally replace the hooks on most of my spoons after buying them. A good 2/0 hook runs at least another 50 cents on top of the cost of a spoon. Crippled Alewives come with a black VMC treble hook.
A lightweight spoon with a good action at 2.0mph or above, Crippled Alewives are available in both regular and "Magnum" sizes. During my last trip to Gander Mountain both sizes were on sale for under $1.50.
The only downside to these spoons is the color selection. There are only around 15-20 available patterns, and some of them are "oddballs". They managed to hit some of the most popular salmon colors though.
You won't complete a collection with these spoons, but if you're looking to get started big lake trolling or you want to pick up a few more spoons, Crippled Alewives are a good option.
