Egg Sucking Leech Fly Pattern

Hook - streamer or steelhead/salmon hook Size - #6-#10 Thread - Black 6/0 Weight - optional lead dumb-bell eyes Tail - black marabou or rabbit strip Body - black chenille (medium or ultra) or crosscut rabbit strip wrapped as a body Head - orange or chartreuse chenille (medium or larger) Hackle - black saddle palmered Comment - One of the most effective flies to use for steelhead during the spawn. Seems to be everyone's favorite steelhead/salmon pattern, originating in Alaska for carnivorous rainbows. Great for bedding fish. Go down to the Tippy and look in everyone's fly box - the Egg Sucking Leech will be one of the most popular. The uglier the better. Thanks to Rickey Drager and Robert Kovich for these flies.
