Deer Hair Popper Fly Pattern

Hook – Mustad #94840
Size – #10 – #14
Thread - black 6/0
Tail – deer body hair tips, extended from body
Body – deer body hair, secure a small pinch 20-30 hairs — tied to hook shank, tips pointing toward rear of hook. Pull back over and tie down again, pull back over again and tie down. The remaining hair extends beyond the hook and becomes the tail.
Hackle – coachman brown

Comment – This fly was most probably created by Dr. Samuel E. Lewis, an orthodontist, in the Kalamzoo area. It’s a great fly that can be used for bass, panfish, and trout. It’s a very productive fly on Michigan rivers. Thanks to Tom Deschaine for this submission.
