The maiden voyage of my 6'
DryFlyFloatBoat but could I catch my first steelhead
in it?

Getting closer.... a pretty rainbow trout with ruby red on it's
sides.

Finally my curse is off. My first steelhead. What a
battle. Now I can't wait to try for the next one. May 24, 2003 Took my
oldest son for a float in the trophy regulations section.
His rainbow was the best of the day.

Michigan-sportsman.com outing on the
Muskegon. Fished the special regulations section Saturday
and Sunday. Caught hundreds of fish with this being the
closest to a keeper.

Typical
Bigelow Creek scene Started out by
attempting to fish Bigelow creek near the "railroad
tracks". After I finally got down in the creek, I
found the going very tough. The water was so clear that
the least little mistake will spook the fish for the next 3
pools up. There seems to be a lot of good habitat for fish
and the careful fisherman who isn't frustrated by all the snags
could do well.
Went down to the county park near Newaygo to try my luck on
the big river there. After some coaxing, got this
beautifully colored rainbow to take a bead head zug
bug. Had little luck after that and there was no
hatch to speak of in the evening.

Fished the Muskegon at Pine street. Got there about 4pm and started out with a caddis as there was a hatch occurring. Got no takers on that so I switched to a stone fly nymph. Started catching many hatchery browns in the 5-6 inch range. Switched to a bead-head zug bug and did about the same, kept catching the little ones. It was fun, but wanted to play with the big boys. Put on a Royal Coachman streamer and hooked up with this 8 inch brown. Not a big fish but a good day anyway. Water was extremely high and fast. Wading limited to 10 feet from shore at the most and there were many places where you had to get out and then get back in.

Fished at Thornapple access site. Nothing
rising. Tried zug bug but go no hits. A nice day but
a little hot. Probably was fishing too early in the
afternoon.
