Sight Sighting your deer rifle

Had a fellow tell me he's had a rifle that's been sighting in since 1964. Do rifle scopes change sight settings when not used? He miss a buck last year with his rifle but thinks it was him.

Personally I would want to check my rifle every year no matter what. I've done it for years and will continue. I want to know exactly where that bullet is striking. I check all my weapons that I use. How about you?.........Marty

There is always the chance that a scope can be bumped and will be off the mark. It's a common practice for me to take a couple of shots to make sure I'm on the mark

I shoot about 20 rounds a month through any one of my deer rifles, and any less would cause me to lose confidence in my ability to use that particular rifle well enough for hunting.

It`s a good idea to put a few thru ole betsy before the season. I see too many guy at sight in days looking for screw drivers and such, trying to get on paper to ignore it.

I know of one fellow who missed a deer because this scope mounts came loose. Ammo can also change from lot number to lot number. I put several boxes of shells through each rifle before season. Biggest reason is to be totally comfortable and natural with the rifles. Most folks will sight in sitting at a bench, but not in a standing position. I've noticed that the bullets point of impact is around 2 inches higher when standing vs sitting at a bench because of the change in reaction to recoil.
