Friday the 13th in Manistee (pics)
Finally got out on the boat after a long wait with the new baby at home. It was good to be back on the water, although my buddy did do some chumming for us. We ended up with a 4 man limit of kings by 11:15. Had 6 in the boat by 8 and then about a hour and a half dry spell when we hit colder water in the 12s. . turned back North and when we hit a little warmer water, things took off again. Best water was 160-200 FOW, with riggers 30-50 down and dipseys 90 to 150 back. . . ran a pretty easy set-up with 5 rods for most of the time. . tried the core for about an hour or so, but no need to mess with it. Great time on the water, even for my friend that got a little sea-sick. . . he even took pills.

Nice job Randy (as I sit here at work and grit my teeth in jealousy). Hope to get up there next week and chase the inland bound tuna's.

You members who fish out of Manistee would be well served to sign up in the Outings Forum for the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend 9th Annual Michigan-Sportsman.com Salmon and Trout Fun Tournament

Fishing was great in Manistee all week, just that the weather wasn't. Picked a heck of a week for my vacation. Fished solo most of the time I could get out. Easier to catch a limit and get in before the kids get up. Water changed a bunch over the course of the week. Started out with cold water in front of the pier Saturday night. 2 fish in one hour. Sunday, did a little catch and release as I end up with 5 in 70-100 FOW. Monday, waves were building, so I got my 3 and left. Winds and waves were 4-6 until Friday, actually, Thursday built to that range by about 7. Omega was with me on finally on Friday. Had a little over 2 hours to fish this morning before I had to pack up. Ended up 3/7. The cold water blew in. Temp outside the pier was down from the 63 range to about 49. Went out to 50 FOW and trolled SW. Riggers 27-38 down took most of the hits. There are a lot of fish that I found that were out of temp. My deepest rigger was usually my most productive and at times it was in water that was very cold. Today, I did the 14-15's. 12's and 13's were the hot areas on Friday before the blow once again changed the water. Tough to pattern the fish right now. I also know the there are quite a few adults that still have quite a bit of silver. I'm hoping that this is a sign that these fish will stay out in the big water for another month.
