Default Vic's Archery Closed (FYI)

Stopped by Vic's Archery in Grandville,There was a siezure notice from the IRS.
There was a rumor going around at work, that if you had equipment there being worked on or for sale by consigment that you had to pick it up on Thurs. or you would lose out.
I didn't see anything on the door other than the IRS notice,so I couldn't say whether or not there is any truth to the rumor.

I sure hope everything is all right. My dad has been going there for years, and those guys helped me to set up my first bow last year.

Sparta would be nice though, even closer than before.

Man that's to bad I pick up a Black widow recurve there last year and was thinking of heading up there this year to have they make me a custom bow or even going to a Long bow. They were the only one close to me that delt with trad. equipement.

If there was in fact an IRS notice on the doors, then everything is not alright. It's nearly impossible for any business to bounce back after it comes to that. The small sporting goods store, for the most part, is not doing well these days. The hammer and anvil of the Cabela's and the Wal-Mart's really can take a lot out of a small store. Especially those in more urban area's that are forced to compete with the giants.

Vics was a first class shop. The owners and the staff were(are) very helpful and knew there stuff. Helped me tremendously when I started with traditional equipment. A lot of traditional shooters spent time there and they were more than willing to give a newby some help. Shot leagues there a couple of years and had a great time with a lot a good shooters. They had been trying to get out of that building for a number of years. I wonder if the building itself was being seized (Vic leased it) or if the company itself was in trouble.

I could see where the Gander Mountain opening just down the road a year or so ago probably put a damper on business. Too bad, I never did make it in there...

They simply couldn't compete with Gander Mtn., Galyans, or MC Sports which were all within a couple miles of Vics...that's why the move to Sparta was getting planned...however it don't even look like that's gonna happen now.

Default this doesn't sound good...

So am i going to get my arrows or at least a refund? I just went in to Vic's on Monday(7/12) and paid in full for a half dozen arrows to be made. They said it would take 10days, and today would be the tenth day. I haven't heard from them yet and I guess I'll stop by the shop today to see what is going on. If anybody has any more info, please post it here...

According to their phone message: "Due to unforseen circumstances we are temporarily closed...leave a message...will take a day or so to get back, due to the large amount of calls...thanks for your understanding during this difficult time."

Doesn't sound good, whatever it is.

When I stopped there yesterday there was a bundle of bowhunting magazines at the door. The IRS notice was on the door.
A co-worker heard at a MBH meeting that you must pick up any personal property at the store Today (7/22/04) between 3:00 and 5:00 pm. or it becomes IRS property.
This is what I was told but there was no notice to that effect posted on the door. You might want to try calling the store first.

I just got back from Vic's and it was a strange scene. I was greeted at the door by a guy and a lady that I assume work for the IRS. The guy told me that the business had been siezed and informed me that I had to fill out some sort of IRS form if I was going to leave the building with anything. I explained to him that I was there to pick up arrows that I had already paid for. He told me to check with Vic and that if the arrows were done, then I would have to fill out some paperwork before leaving with them. The IRS told me that though the business was seized, the IRS could not sieze the property of innocent 3rd parties(like me) and an effort would be made to get me my arrows. It was strange because Vic was still working the counter, but the IRS people were keeping tabs on anything leaving the shop. I talked to Vic and he said my arrows weren't done and they would call me in a week. Vic said that the business should be up and running again in a week, but I am still wondering about that because I talked to the IRS guy again(after speaking with Vic) and he said, hopefully, the business will be up and running again in a week and they could get my arrows to me, but he said he couldn't promise anything..which really leaves me wondering...I feel bad for Vic's(they had always been good to me), but I really hope that I get my arrows or at least get my money back..This is a strange situation indeed.
