Default Martin Archery ???

I am shopping for my first bow, I set myself limit of 400.00 just in case I end up not enjoying myself. Bass Pro has this Martin Razor on sale for 315.00. I shot it a few times and it felt great. I guess my questions are, is Martin a good bow and does anyone use the martin razor, and is this a bad beginners bow???

Bigfish59,
Check out this Link MARTIN RAZOR
I bought a Martin Couger 3 this winter, it was last years model and was on sale for right around 400$ normally it's about a 500$ bow. This was at gander mountain in Grand Rapids. I really like the bow, shoots fast, quiet, real nice bow. A lot of bow shops will sell nice bows from the previous year for a lot cheaper, unfortunalty most of them are gone now. I did see a few Hoyts on sale for around 300$ at Gander Mountian , these are good bows also. Also PSE makes a "nova" bow that you can get for under 300$. Dont forget the accesories, you can spend a lot of cash on a rest, sight, quiver, arrows, broadheads, release, ect.....
Most importantly get a bow that you like and fits you, make sure your draw length is correct for the bow and it fits comfortably in your hand.
good luck and let us know what you get.

Those Martin Cougar III's are one of the best buys in archery right now. Unbelievable performance at a reasonable price.

Martin makes some of the best bows out there and very reasonably priced. Very under rated in hunters IMO...you see a LOT of them in target competitions though...what does that tell ya

They have a lot of different options on cam styles and limb configurations though and they do have a tendancy to make changes in a particular bow "on the fly". So make sure you have a QUALIFIED person set you up... BASS pro is great but I don't put much faith in most their "bow techs" as many just transfered to Archery from Shoes or the camping department.

The Razor comes in 3 cam options.
1. Dyna Cam...single cam
2. Tru-Arc...hybrid/ cam and a half
3. Nitrous cams...dual cams which is by far the fastest. The Nitrous also has the option of a shoot through cable system that eliminates the cable gaurd altogether and is favored by many of the target guys. Probably not the best bet for a beginner though.

Limb options are Straight, Elite and Magnum or sometimes they call the mag the "SE". SE and Mag are the shortest with the straight being a bit longer and the elite being longer still. There again the Elite limbs are favs among the target crowd but may not be the best suited for hunting.

Good luck.

i have a martin prowler with se limbs and tru-arc hybrid cams, 29" draw, 62 lb draw. really like the bow. the hybrid cam is not the fastest - my 430 (total weight) arrow chrono's at about 230 fps. but the nitrous (dual cam) bow is supposed to be pretty hot, if speed is your thing.

i second the thoughts that others have posted - you will not find a better bow for the $400 i spent on the prowler se. same for the cougars - next step up, i think they are around $500-530.

if you really investigate the way they construct the bow, you'll find that martin stands out among many.

with that said....

anyone else out there get sick of seeing martin advertise with some hot model holding the bow? nothing wrong with hot models in general, but come on, the bows can sell themselves.. you don't need a women in tight shorts and a tank top - they're advertising a hunting bow..

oh well, they are still good bows.. ;-)

I've got a Martin Speedfire Magnum that I've used a couple of years. It's held up very well and it's easy to adjust. I was familiar with shooting short axle bows but because of it's short brace height it requires more practice than any other bow I've hunted with. I found it difficult to tame.

You'd think! But that fear makes 'em run like a deer.
