Ever happen to you??
I just bought the Cabela's PL-1.5 bow. This is the first time that I set up a bow totally on my own. I have a wisker bicuit arrow rest and a true fire five star nock. I freaked out the first time I shot it. The nock hit the wb and the string slapped the base of my thumb. I thought it was messed up. It turned out that the nock was to heavy. I put on a string loop and now the bow shoots great. At 30 yards the 20th arrow would have been a robin hood if I hadn't switched from aluminum to carbon. Still ruined the arrow. I'm still a little freaked out, probably should have got a bow set up at a shop.

You learn sooo much setting up a bow on your own. I used to have pro shops set mine up but the last 4 bows I have done myself and its much more fun doing it on your own. besides, if you run into problems thats what forums are for.

I had a string blow up on me and had to go get a new bow.
I missed that season (I think it was '82) I couldn't afford a new bow right away.

I hope you break that slump this year. The bow I broke was an old (even then) Bear recurve that came delaminated when it shot dry (or maybe when I dropped it in a state of shock ). I am sure that thing is still in the basement somewhere, I got my first archery deer with it and I would never have thrown it out.

I agree that you learn so much setting up your own equipment, and you become more self-sufficient. This is really impoortant when you are miles away from a sport shop, and something breaks on your bow. It is not that hard, and it just takes a little experience. Good luck!

I do all my own being that most of the pro's get it close enough to call it good, but I like everything to be perfect.

My buddy owns a small shop. He won't do much work on mine anymore as he says as soon as he sets it up I brek it down and start over a week later anyway
About the first thing I do is to look at it real good and read the manual COVER TO COVER...and than take very dteailed digital pics, mark the specs (brace, ATA etc.) ina notebook and than rip it apart!LOL!
I still need help once in a while (Still can't serve a string) but by next year I should be able to do everything myself.
Good way to go but have a back up "pro shop" in place just in case.
