Question How Do I Know Where It Is??

If someone gives me a coordinance of 42.34.17 82 45.04 6 how do I know where that is. If I look on a map I can find 42.34 but after that then what. Thanx for the help.

Send me your e mail address and I will send you a map of the location of your waypoint that your friend gave to you.

The numbers with the 42 on them are the lines that go from left to right on a map, the numbers with 82 on them are the lines that go from the top to the bottom of the map.

42.34.17 is acutally N 42 34.17 or (North 42 degrees, 34.17 minutes)

82 45.04 6 is actually W 082 45.04 or (West 82 degrees 45.04 minutes)

It can be confusing. The UTM map coordinate system is much easier to understand. The only problem is most maps do not have the overlay.

the newest michigan gazatter map book is all set-up in lat/long in 5 minute squares. thats easy to find your numbers. a straight edge an a set of deviders makes it a bit easy to run the numbers.
