Went down to the river near Monroe last night. Caught five nice smallies, all on a 1/4 oz. jig w/ white twister tail. Great fun on an UL rod. Largest was 15"

Does any one else out there fish this river? If so, what do you generally catch.

I have fished this river since I was a kid, and still only reside a mile away. It's a good river to fish when you only have an hour or so to waist.

Down by the mouth of the river, you catch smallmouth, largemouth, pike, catfish, and of course all the Lake Erie rough fish. Nothing in any great numbers.

From Roessler Street Bridge west, you'll find some very good wading water. Most of the catch will be smallmouth and rock bass.

If you have a canoe, there are some fabulous holes up by Dundee. In this area is were you'll catch your lunkers.

Jig with twister tai is a common set up. Next time your on the river, try some surface lures. It's a great time watching the smallies smash a jitter bug or hulla ppopper.

I wish you well and good luck JTH3.

Would those holes be above or below the dam in Dundee? I've always headed more towards Monroe to fish. I'll have to try out the Dundee area. Thanks for the info. Good luck to you as well.....

I've read some good things about the Raisin above Manchester in Washtenaw County. Anyone fished this stretch? I have driven by the Raisin many times near Deerfield, and it looks reasonable. But the access looks to be a problem, i.e. mostly private property.

Default rasin river access

You can get to the river in either manchester by goin south out of manchester on m-52 to austin rd go east on austin and you will cross over the river and see where many people park and fish from the bank. You can also get on the rasin in tecumseh on the south side of town off of russell rd, take m-52 just south of m-50 to russell and go east to river just before it ends into rogers hwy.

I haven't fished the rasin in many years, but when i did it was ok fishing for bucket mouths and pike. I know of a few more spots in this area let me know if you want them.

I have fished the river near the mouth many times. Most of my catch has been smallmouth. Usually small but I have a few in the 3 lb class. I also took a large mouth that weighed 5.25 lbs.

Got out this weekend. Water was way too high to fish. Should be good in a couple of days, if we don't get much more rain this week.

I usually do my best later on in the summer when the water is a lot warmer and lower. I usually prefer the lower water since it concentrates the bass into the holes. It's a blast to hit it early in the morning (when the water's the coolest) and fishing topwater in the holes. There's some big Bass and suprisingly big pike in the river. The part that I fish is usually better for pike later in the season. They especially like to attack small hooked smallmouth.
