Holloway can be a difficult place to find fish at times. I don't really hear of a lot of guys fishing it in the winter. I think they also drain it down a few feet in the winter. Not sure how that effects the ice and fish.

It's hard to find the fish. To find the fish need to find channel and drop off's. Still have to fight for the fish to bite though. I'm not sure about them draining some of it or not but they might.

I live out on Holloway. The water is down at least 3-4 feet, which should concentrate fish in the deeper spots. I personally havent fished it in 10 years or so, we used to catch catfish, bluegill, perch, crappie, and pike. I have not caught a walleye through the ice out there. From what I remember it is pretty difficult to locate the fish. Most of the drop offs are located on the old riverbed, I havent checked ice conditions, so be careful. That lake has always been hairy with the ice, 10 inches one spot, 3 inches the next. I always hear of people catching fish right out from the boat launch off stanley road but I used to fish out from the campground. Try getting a map of the lake to help locating any holes.

Halloway having fish is just a nasty rumor.
The State says it has more walleye per acre than any other inland lake. That might be true, but I sure can't prove it. Those fish are even more tight lipped than the Stony Creek fish.

Hey sometimes the imaginary holloway walleye bite my crankbaits in the summer....sometimes...not often Guys I do not know the ice conditions as I don't go by there much during ice season, since I don't have much plans to fish it. I've talked with some people on here about how I would love to be able to find the crappie in there...I bet they are large. Obviously fish will be in the river channel, or nearby the river channel. But that is still a lot of water to cover.

The river channel goes from one end to the other. finding it and the fish is pretty difficult. Since it sounds like it's not fished much should be large fish in there. The resevoir is close to 2,000 acres in size which is a lot of water to cover. They use to plant it with different kinds of fish but haven't in a while.

Troll in the summer and you'll have the channel memorized in no time....and you'll also lose 50 bucks worth of hot n tots. Post a report if you go,....I may just go for a drive soon to see if I can scout someone's old holes for ya.

Fish eyes M.I.A.

I live right by Halloway, I asked around and apparently the eyes migrate to head waters of the river, making them M.I.A. in the winter. In the summer I have found long lining crawler harnesses to be very productive, put on a slip sinker about a foot above harness and slowly drag it across the bottom, the channel snakes through the resovoir and the harness goes up and down the edges. You'll learn where the snags are harnesses are cheaper than hot n tots!! Good luck I'll be on the sag river where the eyes are not M.I.A. (most of the time)

Don't waste your time. I've heard of people catching fish in the winter there but have never met anyone who did the actual catching.

Ive never ice fished the holloway, but there are tons of fish in it, but people are correct, sometimes they are heard to find. THere are a lot of walleye in there, which some pretty big ones to be found. Tons of smallies in the rocks, tons of largemouth in the grass, tons of channel cats on the flats, carp everywhere, and a decent pike fishery too. But like i said, my experience in all in the summer. It should be worth a shot.
