Well I fished 4/2-4/4 on the Ausable.
I didn't get to the river until 4ish pm on Monday due to a urge to sleep in late and pure stupidity! The stupidity came into play around Tawas when I realized that my waders were hanging at home and I had to go back for them!
When I finally got to the river I found it full of people so I went looking for redds and I lucked out and found a couple. went 3 for 5. Two dark bucks(4-5 pounds maximum, released) and a bright hen (about 7-8 pounds with loose spawn, kept her). Funny thing is that I was so happy to see a hen spitting eggs that It never occurred to me that I didn't bring a knife. I lucked out and found a razor blade in my truck.
On tuesday I got a late start again(Due to alarm clock failure) Got to the river at 9 and again the river was full in the section that I wanted to fish. went back to the redd from Monday at 11am and landed two beautiful bright hens(released them ones).
Today I got a fairly late start again! and got skunked badly!!!! Left the river by noon to pursue fish on different rivers.
Anyway I got a lot of funny looks from my "Spectators" while fishing my redds. I'll tell ya if you aren't wearing polorized glasses you are not going to see any of the fish! Even with the glasses all I could see most of the time is a tail flick or more often a shadow or new object in the run.
I hit my fish at the highbanks(was by myself most of the time, which was cool) but I also hit a lot of the other upper stretches and bunch of mid river spots. Only saw the 4 redds total. Water is right at 40 degrees in the mid afternoon from what I heard . still a bit too cold!!!
