Saw only a few steelies caught today. Not much happening. I had a headshaker in the early morning that was about it. Saw some ducks on the river and almost hit a coyote and some deer on the way up as well. Did meet a fellow member of this site, hey Kienbaum. That was pretty cool. Other than that, not much of a report. i sure hope more is happening on the other side of the state for next wknds outing. until then, tight lines!

Hey ladykiller, You didn't happen to almost hit those deer on old state road because we almost hit a couple dozen, right by the old baseball field if anybody is on that road be careful!!! Just past the stop sign where the railroad tracks are, We must have saw close to hundred deer in about a five mile stretch.

I also hit the Au Sable today(3/10) My buddy when 2-3. I went 1-2. My friend got was what i believe was an Atlantic salmon. Ladykiller, saw it an also mentioned that it might be an atlantic. I have caught browns in au sable before and this looked close but not quite. It looked alot whiter with dots that resembled X's. Its body shape was even different than a browns. The hole we were fishing, was a longer run filled with suckers. just about every boat that went by said they say steelies down in it too. The steelies we landed were fall/winter hold overs. Good Luck!!

The deer i almost hit were right by the dam store. As for that run, there were suckers in it which the guys in the boats would say, and they said they saw steel as well. So i guess we were in the same spot. I just did not care for the drift in that area. Needed my longer drift rod.

Kienbaumer, Don't give up the location but I caught my atlantic in basically the same run. And yeah mine looked a lot like a brown too but a whole lot skinner , the head was longer and the markings were a little different. I did some quick research and the mouth of the fish entends back past it's eyes, which would explain the long looking head.

Weezer, didn't you say you released your atlantic. Maybe Kienbaumers fish was the same one you caught. Just a thought.
Hey guys don't fret about all the people, its just as bad down here and I suspect the same in the north west. Wish I had couple weekdays off instead of only saturdays and sundays. In another month or so it will only be sundays so I guess I better be happy with what I have now.
Hope to see you guys next weekend!
Stelmon, you coming? Tell your dad theres free hamburgers.

My fish was a little larger from what Ladykiller described. I C&R measured mine at 22 inches(Markings from my elbow out past my hands). Wanted to keep it for proof but I don't think I could have lived with myself If I killed it.

The atlantic my parnter got was 18 inches. Sad to report, he kept it. I his defense it was his first au sable anything (steelie, brown, salmon.) He has been fishing all fall an winter with me. I joked when he caught it because he caught that before he caught his first steelie ever. I told he wasn't ever going to get a steelie. Ten minutes later he got his first steelie and released it. Tightlines!!!
