Camo Gun Finish Maintenance?
I posted this in the firearm forum as well.
I have a SBEII with MAX-4 finish. For those of you who own camo guns, is there anything that you do to help maintain the finish? Up to this point I have just been wiping the gun down with a damp cloth followed by a dry one. I've heard conflicting opinions about whether or not getting oil on the finish has any harmful effects.
Thanks for the feedback.

My Maxus has this finish, and it says in the manual to just use a soapy rag to wipe it down. And I usually use some Dawn and water and that's it. Just be careful not to get any type of bore scrubber (solvent) on it, as I believe it will break it down.

Solvents are not a friend to the coating. I watched a buddy of mine make a camp smear around the action of his SBE.

When I sent my SBE II in (also max 4 finish) to Benelli for a little work they suggested that I start oiling down the entire gun. Their advice was to keep all areas exposed to the elements including the barrel and the stock (as well as all moving parts) coated with a thin layer of oil. That was about a year ago now and still no problems with my finish coming off or wearing unusually.
