Question More GPS/USB port help needed.

Okay folks, you steered me right by the suggestion of getting a serial/USB convertor cable to interface my Garmin to the home computers. Now I see I have a total of 9 USB ports showing in the hardware profile of my pc but I only have 4 actual USB ports. Things ain't quite hooking up yet.
I need a fresh start. The question is, can I disable the ports in my hardware profile and have Windows XP sniff them out again? I just want to make sure I have only the ports I need (one for the printer, another for a Palm Pilot and another for the GPS).
Thanks, you folks are great!

You can go through and delete the ones that don't actually exhist, in the hardware profile. But you may find that when u reboot that it may add them back. My computer does that with NIC's. Another thing u can also just disable them in the hardware profile/
