there will certainly be room for comments directly to HP. You can always call me here too. I'm supposed to work on one of the surveys on shoreline erosion/user groups based on Higgins Lake being the original headwaters to the Muskegon River. That will be late this summer.
The other (boat wash) survey I think is going to be in partnership with the SOuth State Park and Higgins Lake Property Owners/Higgins Lake Foundation. I'll find out more as they unfold.
Good point about the use of the west boat wash. I'd be curious if they track use there.
We don't have to continue using this thread to discuss this. I just wanted to give you all the heads up to keep an eye out for a summer/fall thread about Higgins.
Lettin the shanty air out and I hung up the short rods. Time to boil my maple sap.

Wed. or Thurs some guys walked out to the island from Pt. Comfort area and one guy went in the water. The others made it to shore to get help. First responders with wet suits dragged/shuffled 12' boat with one leg on ice and one in boat out to the guy and got him out of the water until air boat got him to safety. He was in the water 30 min.
The fishermen wore life jackets and had an extra set of clothes in anticipation of going in the drink. Question: What the hell are these idiots thinking? This is as bad as park rangers having to save mountain climbers that hike in closed areas.....better thinking could have saved twp/state resources.

Always hate reading storys like that... its mullets like those that give the rest of us bad reps. 70* temps and ice fishing don't mix.
Glad to hear they made it OK...

Well, I would say either getting to their island house or BIG perch was the attraction......I have been in that neighborhood this week, And IMHO they had zero chance of making that walk. If it was possible, I would have been out there myself.

I seen two boats on Higgins yesterday. They where south of the west launch, must have been off a road end or from a home. There where know trailers at the boat launch.
