Default Target shooting on public land requirements

Want to get some target shooting in before the woods are full of hunters, lots of SGAs and state land around me. Do I need a license on me to shoot? I would imagine in another 2 days I will need my small game license to fire any weapon in the woods, but if no seasons are open is a license of some kind still required?
Thanks.

The season is open all year for some species like red squirrel. Small game season doesn't open on the 15th, just more species are allowed to be hunted. That said you do not need a license to target shoot as long as it is obvious you are shooting at a target. You didn't say where you planned to shoot but most areas in the southern lower like SGAs and state parks are closed to target shooting. In the northern lower most state lands are ok to target practice on. When in doubt you can always contact the dnr in the area you plan to target shoot.

Most state parks anywhere in the state are closed to target shooting although some state park properties outside the camping area are open to shooting. Most SGA's are open to target shooting at anytime of the year although a few SGA's (not most) are closed to target shooting but still open to hunting.

As far as the statement that you do not need a hunting license to target shoot as long as it is obvious you are target shooting.....is correct.
