Default Da Beach..... Metro that is

Man, what a long and not that productive day out on the ice on Sunday...... was on the ice at about 10AM and stopped by south river road and there were already people leaving, said they didn't catch a thing... so I decided to head to metro beach. Being that south river didn't do anything, i decided to go to the basin..... caught quite a few dinks, but nothing of size.

Met a guy at the basin that wasn't doin anything either, and after a breif conversation, we decided to go to the beach side. SLOW again. After quite a walk, we decided to cut some holes and it was really slow, with several small perch taken. Then i had a bite that had my slip bobber pegged under the ice.... set the hook, thought i had a huge perch.... ended up being a keeper walleye!!! COOL!! I was in business..... then it was slow perch fishin again, so we moved, didn't do anything again and he decided to leave....

I, for some reason (the wind was startin to howl and progressively get worse) decided to stay and i went out a little farther and set up shop..... real slow, but i waited it out. few more dinks... Right at dark, out of no where, i got some NICE perch, about 10 1/2 inches each.... it was gettin kinda dark, and i didn't have my lantern.... and right at the end, i got a nice mud puppy. musta been about 18", couldn't find my hemos, so i put him back down the hole hooked, finally found them so i pulled him out, unhooked him, and he slithered back down the hole. Fascinating little things....

Well, final tally for the day, 5 perch, 1 walleye.... slow but better than sitting in the house all day, though the cold took a toll on me, i'm bushed. That wind was really howllin at the end of the day. blowin stuff everywhere if it wasn't bolted down, saw a guy go for a ride in his shanty, no one hurt.....

Well, i may go out tomorrow for a bit, hopin it might be a little better.

Steve

Nice catch Steve. I'm hoping for a stray walleye this upcoming weekend. Sounds like you have a nice meal there.

for the walleye and a couple of the perch, I used a tiny treble with a minnow under a slip bobber..... nothing fancy, but worked....

Nice job Steve. I was out there Sat and my luck was nothing like yours. I did have a walleye chase my depth sinker last year out in front of metro. Thats the closest I've come to a walleye through the ice.

Did you hear anything from ginos??? I think i'm going there, did good there last year. Do you know what's happening at mitchells bay??? No reports for a while, but they are all good, i think i might risk going there.

Ginos has been more miss than hit. Should pick up towards the end of the month and into march, long as we don't get 2" of rain..Mitchells might be a better bet.
