You know what is really strange?? I have ice fished the Tittabwassee and never caught a walleye. I don't quite understand this. Years ago people used to go down and ice fish the tittabwassee and catch lots of fish. Now... as soon as the ice goes out you can go down there and knock the ***** outta them from boats. I am still puzzled about the whole idea why ice fishing is so bad.. then from ice out to March 15th you can go down there and catch your limit. Anyone feel free to give your opinions.

Walleye generally live in the big lakes and spawn in the spring in the rivers. That is my Lake Erie (Bass Island's) do so well in the winter, but the Detroit River does well for the spring spawn.

The spring spawn is when the heavy lunkers come in to spawn so everybody has at least one big fish in the boat.

Granted you can catch fish all year round but the spawns are when it's hot.

Yeah.. but the fish still have to be there. I have fished the Tittabawassee in December before when the river didn't freeze over and caught lots of fish.. then as soon as ice forms you can't get jack *****.

Fished that area the weekend between Christmas and New Year's. Caught a couple small perch and that was about it. No one we talked did any better!! We did get a visit from a DNR officer, she came down to the river between a couple of house's. I think she was watching for a while from her truck. We were all legal. No trouble's.

Good Luck!! Post a report when you get back, good or bad.

I'll be sure and leave a report when I return. I just hope it's a good one.

There is open water in spots, but most of the river is fishable.

Thanks for the info!!

Which would be better to fish?

Ice or Open??

Is the open water fishable or is there ice along the shores?

Default Upper Tittibawassee

The Lost Arrow is on the upper Titt , or a flooded impoundment of the Titt, also known as Secord lake. Not many walleye there ,more of a panfish and pike lake.
The lower Titt below Dow is were you will find walleye , but mostly just before the season closes. And I personaly wouldnt trust the ice down there, but some do.
