report from hubbard lake
well most of the guys and gals have headed home. i just want to thank everyone again for a good time. most everyone took home some walleye and three guys took home some nice perch. i think the biggest perch was 1#14oz. doughboy outfished everyone on friday. the boys from ohio limited out on eyes and had a nice perch on saturday. sunday was a little slower and most guys left around 11am.
thanks to dz taxidermy for donating a free mount for one of the ohio guys perch.
also thanks to fishfoote for the hamburgers and skeeter for the door prizes.
i also want to thank the local people who help with this outing, hubbard lake motor lodge, smokey's bar, and hubbard lake tavern.

Yup, even a blind dog gets lucky but MANY thanks go to the Starter of this outing and that's East Bay Outfitters- East Bay Ed and crew. I've got a new favorite lure for those walleyes thanks to Ed. And a special thanks to Not Much Time for listening to all my fish stories and I Thought that 13 plus inch perch you caught was going be the winner darn.

Hubbard
Hubbard Lake and area was just beautiful in the winter. First off I would like to thank (East Bay Outfitters- East Bay Ed) Ed, his brother, mom, not sure if that was his wife or not but anyway the feast was something else. I mean if a person went a way hungry it was their own fault. Bergers, dogs, chili, another soup, MEAT BALLS (were out of this world) chips and coffee. Thanks so much. Didn't get to say thanks when I left as I jumped in the truck to go back out fishing with DZ and wife. Was very nice meeting all of you. Man that was great. My nephew from Flordia caught 2 fish and was in his glory, son and his girl friend caught 3 and had a blast. I am looking forward to going back some day. Kinda looking at the bay right now as soon as I get rested up. The people who owned the cabin, hotel, and the people at Smokey's were all so kind. Thanks to all of you in Hubbard for having the Michigan Sportsman Gang for a weekend! Nels

I need to get in on this too, Thanks Ed for putting this thing together is was a blast aside from the hospital trip of course we, myself 1shot(dan), LOngbeard(jason) we appreciate all the help and all the work you put into this. Man the characters I meet this weekend, I'm not going to name names I would surely forget one and that just wouldn't be right all are good people. I'll bring up one thing about one of the fine members of this site, and that would be "Ice Fishin Nut", since he nor I were able to land a fish, one of us would call that person a farging bastage, so to speak and that someone wasn't me what do you say about that IFN Once again, thanks to all for a great time......

Wow, what can I say, you Michigan guys are ok after all.
Only two of us from Ohio made the trip up to fish Hubbard but we had a great time.
Ed did a great job of answering our 100's of questions about the lake and keeping us on top of the fish. Now if Ed could just make them bite. We fished for four days. We caught no fish Thursday morning, 4 very nice walleye Thursday evening, 1 fish all day Friday, 18 walleye and 1 perch Saturday and 1 small walleye Sunday. I watched fish almost full time on the camera from Thursday afternoon on, and saw a bunch of the big perch on Sunday morning but just couldn't get them to bite.. so anyway a great big thank you to Ed.
Also a big thank you to DZ Taxidermy for donating the perch mount for this outing. I saw the recent work he did on his smallmouth mount and I'm sure this perch will turn out awesome also. Some of you I'm sure are disapointed that the perch mount was won by someone from Ohio, but you should be getting used to losing to Ohio, right?
I'm sorry that I didn't meet many of you, I was working very hard in the shanty trying to catch these fish that I was seeing on the camera, and during Ed's lunch was one of our hot periods on Saturday for catching fish, sorry we missed the lunch.
My best laugh for the weekend was the "Whale" on the radio, when he was driving on the ice for I guess his first time. We he neared his destination out on the ice he said " you couldn't drive a nail up my **** right now". It was funny to me because of my first time ever driving on the ice at Hubbard two years ago, very similar feelings.
Thanks to everyone and I look forward to fishing with you Michigan guys again. GO BLUE!!! , just kidding

WOW what a weekend, Thanks Ed & family, we all had a great time. It was nice to meet everyone. The help and info from everybody was great.
The one thing we all must remember is that some of our members are thinking of the future, that is why IFN keep releasing his fish. Boy what a guy.
Look forward to seeing everyone again.

Well,
Thanks East Bay Ed for putting this thing on. Sounds like you had some good grub at the lunchen, sorry we missed it. I'm going to use the fishing pole I won this weekend.
We saw some huge perch on the ice and some good walleye, but my group got skunked. I still had a good time. Also, because of all the hype there was for the buckshot rattle jig, there was a purcahase, or two made on the way home...
Was nice to meet some new faces and see some of the people I met at the Lexington outing. I'm sure I'll see some of you guys out on LSC in the weeks to come.
Thanks to IFN and eyebuster for getting us some holes fast with their power augers. I may have buy one in the future.
Also, because of this trip BuddhaBelly going to be so kind as to buy me a new coleman lantern. I didnt hava a post for the ice hole hijinks!? thread until now. Thanks Buddha...

Even though we drove up 5 hours to get to hubbard lake and came home empty handed, we had fun. We were at least able to catch a buzz on the ice Thanks to East Bay Ed for all the goodies and for setting everything up.

I'm still tired...
What a great weekend and great bunch of people! Huge thanks to Ed, Heidi and his parents for lunch! I've got to get some pictures out as soon as I get a chance. The Morning View Lodge team (me and Fish Factor) managed a respectable 4 eyes (me 1, Fish Factor 3) and several shorties that had to go back in the hole...not to mention those that refused to come out of the hole (must have been a lite-bite weekend). I will definitely be heading back for the next two weekends. Fish Factor will be joining me for the Magnum Tournament on the 15th. Anyone else that will be heading that way let us know and we'll have to hook up!
