John Eberhart
Does anyone how he did last year? I did not hear if he shot and bucks or the size of them. At one point I heard that he was having some health issues and was not hunting. How did his son Chris do?

Here is what John said in a recent post:

Last season in Michigan I never even saw a shooter buck the entire season, not even at a distance, and I hunted quite a lot. I will never be a hypocrite and will continue to hunt areas that lend credibility to what I write about. I get several offers each year to hunt on pay to hunt ranches for free, or to hunt someone’s property in Michigan that is managed with lots of big bucks and I have always and will always refuse. I do however look forward to going out of state to hunt those easy to kill big bucks on knock on door properties and public lands.

I highly suggest that you read any of John's articles on stand placement, stand prep/trimming and/or trail clearing/making, etc.
Of all the authors out there, he get's it and explains all that's involved more than any. IMHO
Sure, there's always generic "stand placement/trimming" articles. But John gets the next level and is willing to share it. Something others aren't necessarily willing to do.
A lot of guys put tons of thought into what camo pattern, bow or arrows they want to shoot, but don't put near the effort and thought into proper stand placement, prep, entry/exit, the sun position, shooting position, background cover, thermals, being covered from deer coming at all angles, etc.
John totally understands how vital all that is and explains it very well.

Thanks for wondering how I did and
Pinefarm
Thanks for the kudu's on my instructional books and dvd's
Well I just happen to know how I did last fall. I did have shoulder surgery and ended up shooting a 35 pound Mathew's Conquest bow (fingers bow), 150 Maxima Hunter arrows, and G-5 1 1/8 inch cut Strikers. I mention these items because I had to downsize everything for the light poundage bow. I took a big doe in Michgan and a monster 12 point on state land in Illinois 2 days after their gun season ended (Dec. 17th) in severe weather conditions.
I never even saw a shooter buck in Michigan all season and I hunted quite a bit and up to Nov. 14th. I passed on quite a few 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 year old bucks on both state and private properties in Michigan. Now this year I have went back to work acquiring some new permission and hope I have that problem cured. I had lost most of my descent permission over the past 3 years and have done a crappy job of getting new. I also have a great new location on state land that was set up last March.
As far as my son Chris goes, he kicked ass. He took good bucks in N. Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, and Michigan. He spent about $2,300 (other thanliscense fees) on the entire 6 week adventure. He also had his new book come out last December called Whitetail Access (published by Krause, Deer & Deer Hunting) which tells about his hunting trips out of state on an extremely light budget. The book is more of a journal but gives a lot of information on travel hunting cheaply. He actually sleeps in his soccer mom van, showers at state parks, eats cold soup, granola bars and fig newtons.
Hope all is well for everyone out there and that you all have a gratifying and successful season.

Chris does not go on talk forums and really doesn't like me to either. He says I should not speak my mind so much because it causes contraversy. I personally agree with him to a point, but I don't mind the contraversy because I can back up what I say most of the time.
I will ask him if he is interested in posting them, but I doubt he will. They will eventually be on our wbsite at: deer-john.net

Actually Ack
My sons Chris and Jon as well as myself all drive soccer mom mini vans for hunting out of. Can slide back between seats to change and everything is stored in totes on the side and carry an ice sled to put deer in so the van doesn't get bloody. They work rather well. We do get a lot of laughs however.

That does it!!! No longer will I hide my face in shame and embaresment while driving my Chevy Venture. When people ask why, I'll proudly state "Because John Eberhart does!" No longer will I disrespect the minivan by calling it a "grocery getter" it's know a "B&C taxi!"

I for one are glad you post John. I've been chasing deer for nearly 40 years and I find your observations and opinions to be at the top of any I've read in that time.
