Default Lake Margrethe Report

Got up early and decided to a long drive and hit the lake for some perch and walleye. Fished out in front of the dnr boat launch for morning because thats where all the people were. Guys said that they were gettin the perch last week. I caught one keeper walleye in the morning and a lot of small perch all day long. That evening i moved away from the crowd out to deeper water around 22 f.o.w Out there i had better results with 3 walleye all legal and all on blue minnows. I was jiggin with swedish pimples.
I missed at least 4 fish at the hole or on the way up. Everyone else i talked to didnt have any luck with the tip ups. Caught all the evening walleyes with in 20 minutes right at dusk. Just got lucky i guess compared to the other fisherman i talked to.

Default Re: Lake Margrethe Report

Heading to Lake Margrethe this weekend for an all day Sunday fishing trip. Never fished it before. Going to try a tip-up with a sucker and jigging with minnows in the shanty for walleye.

What works for the perch on the lake? Minnows?

Any tips on where to go would be appreciated. I have a map of the lake and will have a snowmobile to get where I need to go.

Thanks

Default MARGRETHE

Try out from eagle point. I know a few guys down there have been gettin bigger eye's in 35-45 fow 20ft down on the smallest suckers you can get your hands on. No limits but there 23-28in. You'll find perch in those depths too but a lot closer bottom

I haven't fished the lake through the ice yet this year but last year it was all the perch I wanted off of Eagle Point using teardrops with wigglers. Good Luck.

Thanks to you both for the tips.

The map I have shows the water goes to 30 fow about 500 yards from shore at Eagle Point. That sound about right? That's the spot I'm looking for.

I'll get my bait at Skips if that is where the right suckers are. Is there anyplace else to get bait?

Thanks for the help. Let me know if you think of anything else. I'll let you know how I do next week.

Well the trip didn't go as well as planned. Lots of mechanical problems with the snowmobiles and I only got to fish Saturday from about 4 pm to dark.

Didn't get any hits on my tipup or when jigging blue minnows. When I tried fishing with perch minnows I would catch fish after fish as soon as the line went in but they were all 3 or 4 inches long.

Had lots of problems towing the shanty out and I was dropping stuff all over the place. Kept having to stop and reload. I did manage to lose my tackle box so if anybody comes access one let me know It's got a brand new jiggin rapalla and a couple new swidish pimples that have never even touched the water!!

thanks for the information, hopefully next time will go better

Sturgon-Man, I have heard that you can not access the lake at the south boat launch in the camp anymore. Do you know if this is true?

Yes that is true. Immediately after 9-11 they closed the base to the public. They put big cement barriers at the entrance that you kind of have to weave around. Our guess is that is to prevent anyone from crashing the gate. Also, we noticed a stronger show of armed force at the gate.

Once you are on the lake, you will see that the entire beach/ramp section that is on the base is now behind a 6 or 8 foot chainlink fence that runs 10 or 20 feet from the water.

Thanks for the reply Fost. I guess I will have to access from a new spot the next time I go over there.
