ATTENTION ALL FISHERMAN---WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!!

This year's event will again be hosted by The Voyageur Restaurant in St. Clair and will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009. True to our cause, BWSA is upholding our commitment with the Blue Water YMCA as our benefactor and charity. Tickets are available and can be obtained at three locations: Andersons Pro Bait in Port Huron, The Voyageur Restaurant in St. Clair or the Blue Water YMCA in Port Huron. As in the past, tickets will be $10 each which also can be used at The Voyageur Restaurant for half off your second entree. Again this year, the YMCA is offering a free day pass ($10 coupon) to use at the "new" Blue Water YMCA facility. (A $20 value in all!) If you have not already visited this new facility, I implore you to do so. It truly is amazing! This is what is so exciting about having the YMCA as our charity, our whole community gets to share in its success.

"NEW" FOR 2009:

Rules and Regulations basically will remain the same. Prizes will increase! Who wants to argue that? Our 2nd Place Raffle Prize is being replaced with a 4 Person Whirlpool Spa donated by Midwest Pools & Spa. An additional 6th Place Raffle Prize has been donated by SEMCO ENERGY. A $300 Gas Certificate to be used towards your SEMCO ENERGY gas bill. We are also adding a new "Mystery Weight" Fishing Prize donated by SEMCO ENERGY. A $200 Gas Certificate. (Must be present to win!) This prize has been established to ensure all participating fisherman will want to come to The Voyageur to weigh-in their catch even though it may be small. A "Total Weight" of salmonoid will be randomly drawn. (Walleye Fisherman--your heaviest of up to 3 fish). In addition to past Fishing Prizes for Heaviest species of King, Coho, Steelhead, Brown Trout, Lake Trout and Walleye ($500) we are adding a 2nd Heaviest Walleye ($300) and a 3rd Heaviest Walleye ($200). This is to entice fisherman who like to target Walleye. Note: Walleye do not account for Total Weight for "Super Skipper".

"Super Skipper" is the Captain who's team weighs-in the Heaviest Total Weight of salmonoid. This is the "Grand Daddy" Fishing Prize of them all ($500) and is the envy of all fisherman. Winning this title credits the Captain and team with much honored respect!

Plaques will be awarded to the Captains of 1st-2nd-3rd Place Heaviest Total Weight donated by Anderson's Pro Bait. Also, Heaviest Fish of each species will receive a plaque.

And More...

Remember, there is always more! Stay tuned for upcoming announcements. We like to keep everyone under suspense to add to the hype.

A CHALLENGE:

The Salmon Stakes Committee is really working hard this year and we are excited that we are on the upswing even though many fishing tournaments and fishing organizations are struggling. We can atrribute this success to the announcement last year of having the Blue Water YMCA as our charity. The two organizations go hand-in-hand and are a perfect match for the benefit of our entire community. Because of our Strong Donor Support (over $35,000) I believe in the next couple of years we can achieve results of over $100,000 as a net total gross for the YMCA. My goal as Committee Chairman is to have Salmon Stakes grow to become the largest fishing tournament in Michigan. It already has the lowest priced entry fee (cost is only the price of a $10 Raffle Ticket per person). With support from other fishing organizations in the surrounding areas such as (Detroit Area Steelheaders, Blue Water Anglers of Sarnia, Sanilac Club, Thumb Area Steelheaders, GL Angler, etc.) and the fact that there are other YMCA locations also (Birmingham, Sarnia, etc.) that in the future the event would be known as the YMCA Salmon Stakes Challenge. With prizes well over $50,000 (currently at $25,000) and over 200 boats participating. If your organization shows interest, all I need is a name and number or e-mail information and we will contact you of how this great opportunity can benefit your club or organization also. Thanks again for your support and sell those tickets!

Sincerely,

Jim Frazer
Committee Chairman

Thumbs Up

Thanks Joel, without the Donors support such as yourself at Anderson's Pro Bait, this event could not take place. I will be posting this info on your web-site next. Jim

By the way, that was a very nice catch you guys had last year! It just goes to show you that it ain't all about fishing the Lake.

Good luck again this year!

Thanks for posting the updates to our web-site Mike! You da man!

Now, how about posting some of those insane vids you have to show everyone who they are up against! I don't want everyone troll'in up and down our waterways pee-pee'in and poo-poo'in about how they are about to steal the title away from BWSA.

I'm taking it up a knotch folks!

Thanks, DD.

Hopefully the boat can go in early enough this year to run it up to the lake. Fishin the river is cool because its close to home, but theres nothing like the big lake in the spring.

Default Yeehh HAaawwG!

46 more days till we pull out the ole gal.

Looking forward to putting on our old ding'd up prop to fish the Salmon Stakes for the 5th year. Great job Jimbo!!!

The mystery weight is a great idea! I have made the Harbor Beach to Voyager-Voyager to Harbor Beach-Harbor Beach to Washington Twp run before. Not so much fun when your 14lb brown get's nosed out by Zimmers 468lb brown trout and a few other close calls . All we have to show for is 2 empty 30 pak crave cases from White Castles. Uggh!

You can count on Pryor Commitment, Down/Out, Ballsrdragn & probally "Getaway".

See ya soon,
Ben

I want to explain all of the stuff you get by purchasing a $10 ticket.
 • You get entered into the raffle (Alaska trip, ect).
 • It allows you to register into the fishing tournament.
 • You can use your ticket stub to get 1/2 of a 2nd dinner at the Voyager.
 • You can use your ticket stub to get a Free One Day Pass for one into the Blue Water YMCA.
This is a bargain.

On the ticket side / not tournament. How many raffle tickets were sold last year. Also, a person could buy like 4 or 5 tickets for a better chance to win the Trip or Cuzzi, Right?

Question: "Super Skipper" is the Captain who's team weighs-in the Heaviest Total Weight of salmonoid. This is the "Grand Daddy" Fishing Prize of them all ($500) and is the envy of all fisherman. Winning this title credits the Captain and team with much honored respect!

The new DNR rules effects our catch ratio's. Are you going to cap the limit? Or it is what it is...and 5 guys could bring in 25 fish. Not likely to happen.... but just wondering.

The BWSA and the YMCA sold a little over 1,000 tickets each last year. Including the art auction and our special raffle we raised over $23,000. Our goal for this year is to double that!

You can buy as many $10 Raffle Tickets as you wish. It increases your chances of winning! Remember, each ticket has a $20 value and they make great gifts.

2009 DNR regulations will apply (5 salmon--3 trout). A team of 5 fisherman could weigh-in 25 salmonoid.

These are great questions. Keep them coming, it adds to the excitement!

*Anderson's Pro Bait will be holding a Spring Trolling Seminar presented by Tim Cook (King Kong) this Sunday, March 1st @ 10:00 a.m. Joel will be discounting fishing tackle, so take advantage of this opportunity!
